Manhood Undistorted Character
I invite you to read Rigoberto Larraga Lara's book on the theme of manhood, holiness and the biblical character of a redeemed Christian
I invite you to comment and let us abound on the subject of Christian manhood.
Manhood: Undistorted carácter
In the first letter that the apostle Paul sent to the
Corinthian church in Greece, he says goodbye as follows: “Watch out, stand firm
in the faith; behave manly, and be strong ′′ (Chap. 16:13).
“Be Manly”; two words so simple and direct that they have been diluted
over time. Personal interpretations, cultural applications, up-to-date
languages, liberal ideas, ideological openings, social distortions and
countless etc. have left a huge void in the conceptualization of what a
"real man" is.
As men, we face an enormous challenge in trying to reach the
goal of being a “good man”, of being a “real man”, of being a “man of God”; at
present there is no clear idea of what that means. It is not a new battle,
since we were children, we have been guided by examples -within our reach- to
become men, apparently all adequate and contradictory at the same time.
Personally, during my childhood and later, as a teenager, I
lived with three men who –without being aware of it- were my role models in my
quest to become a good man. The first -Don Nico, my father- older man,
hardworking, strict, disciplined, with a good heart, unconverted. The second
-Mario, my older brother- forced to mature at a very early age, responsible,
attentive, educated, careful with his person, a Christian. The third – Luis, my
maternal uncle- irresponsible, careless, dependent, alcoholic,
pseudo-Christian. Loved, admired and respected men from that time and even
today, although two of them are no longer with me.
In my training as an adult I had the privilege and blessing
of living with a large number of men who made an effort every day to find and
follow that fine line that is to be "a good man", for themselves, for
their family, Your church, your community. “To appear before God, approved, as
men who have nothing to be ashamed of. . . ” (2 Timothy 2:15). What was the
common focus of these men? Search "diligently" for the precepts and
guidelines established in the Word of God and let yourself be guided by the
Holy Spirit on the journey.
At the same time, meeting a large number of men who,
following social and cultural conventions, had the slightest idea that they had
to look for something or were simply convinced that what they were doing was
right. Living in a constant struggle to prove who was the "best man".
Deteriorating more and more the image that the Lord established in the man
since his creation.
I have read this book and I am convinced that what is
embodied in it can be an important tool, a basic guide that would help to
dispel the shadows that have been created around this important topic such as
"Christian Biblical Manhood" and take us to the true source of Truth
and Life, which is the Word of God. The Bible.
I am infinitely grateful to Rigo, my very dear and admired
friend and brother in Christ, for giving me the opportunity to participate in
the formation of this manuscript. Being him, one of those great men who have
forged his life and ministry guided by the Holy Spirit of the Lord and
strengthened the lives of many men through his testimony. Throughout our
friendship and the coexistence of our families, we have identified the urgent
need to strive to be "better men, better Christians", for the good of
our wife, our children, our church and community, for the good of our ministry
and testimony, but mainly to honor the Name of Our God and His Son Jesus
Christ, Our Savior.
“ . . . I myself do not claim to have already reached it; But
one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies
ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in
Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13-14
